Overview

The School of Agriculture imparts academic education as well as practical field based skills to its students in the field of Agriculture.

The School of Agriculture provides an ecosystem for innovation and research to make farming sustainable, eco-friendly incorporating soil and water conservation. The School of Agriculture aims at serving the national needs of food security and industrial demand for agricultural raw material.

There is a huge demand for qualified experts in Agro-industry with emphasis on innovative techniques to enhance productivity with soil, energy and water conservation.

Therefore, after graduating in Agriculture or Agribusiness Management, a student is eligible to pursue postgraduate studies and/or to make his/her career in agro-industry research & development. This would be most sought after career in times to come.

The NUJ School of Agriculture has vast tract of irrigated land, Horticulture farm , agronomy farm and research farm besides all farm equipment and laboratories.The university has a VAS like a big size farm pond for irrigation purpose of drip and sprinkler system, mulching, net house, green house , poly house, hydroponics, Aeroponics, fogponics, in-vitro mushroom cultivation , vermi-compost unit, Azolla cultivation, 1 acre areas well developed different types fruit plant (mango, guava, pomegranate, lemon, sapota and Malta) orchardand nursery.

The School of Agriculture, NUJ offers various programs of Diploma, UG, PG, and Ph.D. levels in consonance with ICAR.The students are also assigned to village farms programme in order to have Experiential Learning and Interaction with the farmers i.e., Rural Agriculture Work Experience (RAWE) as per the recommendations of 5th Deans’ committee.

The NUJ has adopted five villages to support and implement Outreach and Extension Services Programme as per the recommendations of ICAR

In 2021, a one-year diploma programme in agriculture extension services was launched and it was meant for input dealers of agro needs. These diploma holders will receive appropriate site-specific agricultural education through this diploma program, enabling them to become professionals capable of addressing the day-to-day issues that farmers confront in the fields.

The university is focused on helping farmers to double their income from agriculture and agro-business management, a goal envisioned by the State and Union Government.

The vision of the School is to educate students, researchers, farmers and to inspire agro-entrepreneurs who would meet the needs of the nation in terms of high productivity with a focus on sustainability and use of appropriate technology.
